Residency in Sports Physical Therapy Program

The Residency in Sports Physical Therapy is a 12-month program, running from August to July, focused on advanced sports physical therapist practice with 12 semester hour credits and culminating in academic certificates of completion. Content is offered using blended delivery routes as modules within credit-based courses.

Requirements for accredited sports residency programs include a minimum of 150 hours of 1:1 direct clinical mentoring, 1,350 patient care hours, and 300 educational hours. The online educational content is organized in a series of 5 courses totaling 12 credit hours delivered as 4 credit hours each fall, spring, and summer, with the required ABPTRFE sports clinical practice content modules. Educational content is delivered in an online format with residents interacting both in synchronous and asynchronous sessions. Educational hours in the Sports Specialty Practice I-III courses include case reviews and discussion forums where residents can increase their expertise on orthopaedic and sports content and patient management. Residents collaboratively participate in resident rounds throughout the year. Residents complete two separate one week-long intensives at the Regis University Northwest Denver campus where they advance their orthopaedic and sports skills, hands on manual skill set, patient examination, and clinical problem solving in advanced clinical practice. Sports residents will also complete 200 hours of field coverage for sports/athletic events.
